The reaction of vanillate esters dissolved in chelating agents with zinc oxide yields hard cementitious materials. Hexyl vanillate-EBA(o-ethoxybenzoic acid) mixed with ZnO-Al 2O3-hydrogenated rosin gives a high-strength, low water-soluble cement that does not inhibit polymerization and adheres to non-precious metals and composites.
