The HL-A phenotype distribution in 64 patients with and 100 subjects without aphthous ulceration was determined by a microcytotoxicity test. There were no significant differences in the frequency of single or shared HL-A antigens between the two groups, or between patients with aphthous ulceration who were subdivided into groups according to disease patterns.
