Measurement in Vitro of Enamel Abrasion by Dentifrice

An in vitro method of measuring the abrasivities of dentifrices and abrasive powders on human dental enamel has been developed. The method, based on a proven dentin abrasivity method, records, in absolute terms, the abrasive effects of brushing flat, nonirradiated, enamel specimens beneath an aqueous slurry of the test material with the use of a surface profile meter.
