Enamel Silicon and Fluoride Relationships Demonstrating a Surface Silicon Effect that Facilitates Fluoride Uptake

The silicon and fluoride content and the effect of increased enamel silicon concentration on fluoride uptake in enamel were determined. There is an apparent linear association between silicon and fluoride in enamel. Furthermore, a I µmole increase of silicon acts to enhance topical fluoride uptake by 29 ppm.
