Inability of Low Levels of Sorbitol and Mannitol to Support Caries Activity in Rats

James H. Shaw

Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Boston, Massachusetts 02115, USA

Under the conditions of this experimental environment, 5 or 10% sorbitol or mannitol in diets containing 62 or 57% corn starch, respectively, was not capable of supporting caries activity in rats at a more rapid rate than starch.
