Effect of Occlusal Trauma on Interstitial Pressure in the Periodontal Ligament

Kent G. Palcanis

Departments of Physiology, Biophysics, and Periodontics, University of Washington, Seattle, Washington 98195, USA

Tissue fluid pressure in the periodontal ligament was measured in dog canine teeth placed in traumatic occlusion for 48 hours. The pressure in experimental teeth was 19 mm Hg, which is significantly higher than the 10 mm Hg recorded for contralateral control teeth.
