Genetic and Epidemiologic Studies of Oral Characteristics in Hawaii's Schoolchildren: Dietary Patterns and Caries Prevalence

The relationship between the frequency of eating various foods and caries was studied in 910 eighth grade students of different races in Hawaii. There was a significant positive association between the frequency of candy and gum intake and DMF teeth. Racial differences still persisted after accounting for the dietary variation.
