Incorporation of Fluoride by Human Enamel: III. In Vivo Effects of Nonfluoride and Fluoride Prophylactic Pastes and APF Gels
Robert I. Stearns
Director of Research, The Lorvic Corporation, St. Louis, Missouri 63134, USA
Prophylactic procedures with a nonfluoride paste decrease the enamel surface fluoride concentration, whereas a sodium fluoride paste tends to prevent this loss. Topical acidulated phosphate-fluoride gel treatments exceed the equilibrium of enamel fluoride concentrations that are obtained subsequently by a second-order fluoride loss reaction.
