Dental Eruption Chronology in Dogs: Deciduous Tooth Gingival Emergence

Charles R. Kremenak, JR

Dental Research Laboratory (Oakdale): Departments of Otolaryngology and Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontics, University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa 52240

Tooth eruption was studied in 89 suckling, mixed-breed, and purebred canine pups. Average eruption ages for all 28 teeth fell between the 22nd and 34th postnatal days. Males preceded females in eruption of 21 of the teeth. Mean eruption ages for many teeth were slightly earlier and less variable than previously reported for purebred beagles.
