J.I. Coyle

Departments of Pathology and Dental Surgery, The Queen's University, Belfast, Northern Ireland

In a study of 50 squamous carcinomas of the lower lip, 25 metastasized and 25 were successfully treated by simple resection. Lack of differentiation, a poor lymphocytic response and, in particular, the formation of a loose, alcian blue and Hale positive fibroblastic stroma were unfavorable prognostic signs.
