The Epithelial-Connective Tissue Junction as Seen after Enzymatic Digestion
Mervyn B. Quigley
Departments of Anatomy and Clinical Dentistry, Medical Center, University of Alabama, Birmingham, Alabama 35233
Fixed decalcified paraffin-embedded sections were incubated with bacterial collagenase alone, or with calcium chloride or sodium citrate added. The soft tissue collagens were not digested by collagenase or by collagenase and citrate, although the latter prevented the surface epithelium from staining. The results of the various technics were compared and attempts were made to measure the epithelial-connective tissue junction.
