Figure 3. AN-0128 reduces inflammation in experimental periodontitis. Periodontal bone loss was induced by placement of ligatures around the second maxillary molars. The molars were treated by daily topical application of 1% AN-0128 (1% AN), vehicle alone (V), or positive control, ketorolac (K). One control group had no ligatures (NL), and another had ligatures placed but no treatment (Lig). (A) Hematoxylin-and-eosin-stained sections. Original magnification, 200x. Bar in far left panel represents 0.025 mm. (B) Formation of a PMN/mononuclear cell infiltrate in the gingival tissue was evaluated in hematoxylin-and-eosin-stained sections. A scale was used, ranging from no inflammation (0) to severe inflammation (+3). Results represent the mean of 6 animals ± SEM. *Significantly different compared with ’ligature only’ (P < 0.05).
