Figure 2. 1% AN-0128 reduced alveolar bone loss assessed by micro-CT. Periodontal bone loss was induced by placing ligatures around the right and left second maxillary molars for 7 days. The molars were treated by daily topical application of 1% AN-0128 (1% AN), vehicle alone (V), or positive control, ketorolac (K). One control group had no ligatures (NL), and another had ligatures placed but no treatment (Lig). (A) Diagram of approach to micro-CT analysis. Briefly, the volume, defined by dashed lines, which consisted of bone was assessed in 20 micro-CT "slices", as indicated and described in MATERIALS & METHODS. (B) Bone volume was examined by micro-CT. (C) Bone loss was calculated from values in (B). Results represent the mean of 6 animals ± SEM. *Significantly different compared with ’ligature only’ (P < 0.05).
