Figure 3. Unique NBCe1 and AE2 variants are expressed in ameloblast-like LS8 cells. (A) Expression of NBCe1 and AE2 in ameloblast-like LS8 cells as identified by RT-PCR. Ameloblasts express the NBCe1-B and AE2a variants. (B) Ameloblast bicarbonate transport model based on the polarized expression of NBCe1 and AE2. NBCe1 is localized basolaterally, and AE2a is expressed apically. CFTR is assumed to be expressed on the apical membrane (Arquitt et al., 2002; Sui et al., 2003).
