Conceptual framework showing the psychological response (distress and coping dimensions) to stress stimulus as a mediator between socio-economic deprivation and retention of < 20 teeth via a risk behavioral pathway. Where the stress stimulus is perceived as exceeding available resources, the distress that arises is positively associated with risk behaviors and tooth loss. Coping is negatively associated with risk behaviors.
