Figure 1. Apical migration of the junctional epithelium in rat gingivae. The Cholesterol (B), Periodontitis (C), and Combination (D) groups exhibited greater apical migration of the junctional epithelium than did the Control group (A). The greatest apical migration of the junctional epithelium was found in the Combination group. CEJ, cemento-enamel junction; CT, connective tissue; JE, junctional epithelium; OE, oral epithelium.
