Ethical Issues in Sponsored Clinical ResearchWarner-Lambert Co., 170 Tabor Road, Morris Plains, New Jersey 07950 In recent years, the relationship between industry and academic investigators has been strengthened and has become increasingly complex, creating a variety of situations which have the potential of leading to ethical compromises. Two categories of behavior have been the primary concern of those dealing with ethical issues in science, namely, scientific misconduct and conflict of interest. This paper presents an overview of emerging ethical concerns as well as institutional responses designed to manage the new relationships.
