Department of Conservative Dentistry, University of Wales College of Medicine, Heath Park, Cardiff, Wales CF4 4XY The 'C'-test, which has been employed in the testing of industrial porcelain, offers several advantages when used with dental porcelain. In particular, specimens are similar in size and geometry to porcelain jacket crowns. This study evaluates the application of the 'C'-test for dental porcelain. The results showed good consistency and reproducibility, and those specimens constructed using a tin-oxide-coated foil did not display any greater strength than did those in which the platinum foil was not plated.
