Indiana University School of Dentistry, Oral Health Research Institute, 410 Beauty Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46202 An in vitro model has been developed for the purpose of evaluating the cleaning ability of dentifrices. A stained film is slowly deposited on enamel sections and subsequently removed using a mechanical brushing procedure. Results from this test procedure compare favorably with the results of controlled, clinical cleaning studies.
