Radiographic Spatial Frequencies Essential to the Diagnosis of Incipient Interproximal LesionsNational Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland 20014, USA
1126 South 7th St, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48103 The effects of selective obscuration of dental radiographs containing known incipient interproximal lesions suggest that the amount of resolution required for reliable diagnosis is anisotropic and can be related to the spatial frequency characteristics of the image. Frequencies less than the limiting resolution of existing screen-film techniques seem to be particularly important.
