Reduction of Enamel Solubility by Daily Use of a 0.4% Stannous Fluoride Gel

Ralph P. Feller

Oral Disease Research Laboratory, Veterans Administration Hospital, and the University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston, Texas 77031, USA

Changes in solubility and fluoride uptake by enamel were measured after daily use of a 0.4% stannous fluoride gel by an adult population. Enamel surface fluoride concentration increased as calcium and phosphorus solubility was reduced. Daily use of a 0.4% SnF2 gel provided significant enamel protection in adults.
